For the Sustainability of Thai Waters, MASON Releases Sea Turtles to the Wild for a 4th YearIn May of each year, MASON continues its commitment to restoring Thailand’s oceans by taking a stance on the beach and watching newly hatched sea turtles march towards the horizon and the nature in which they belong. On this year’s World Turtle Day, MASON marked four years of ceaseless efforts for the environment, carried out with a genuine dedication, open heart, and the actions of its many gentle hands. On 21 May 2025, on Man Nai Island of Rayong, Ms. Pornpun Ratanapitakkul, General Manager of MASON, led a team from the hotel to join Mr. Atichat Inthongkam, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Eastern Gulf of Thailand), and Thanapan Chomcheun DVM in releasing sea turtles to the wild, collecting litter along the beach, and improving the area habitat. The site of the activity was an important location for the preservation of sea turtles in Thailand. Overseen by the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Eastern Gulf of Thailand), the location was designated by royal decree in 1979 to spawn, nurse, and care for injured sea turtles before release back into nature. The entirety of the Man Nai island chain serves as a place of study and marine habitat restoration, hosting a range of biodiversity from coral and seagrass to rare marine animals. The living learning center harmonizes science, conservation, and community collaboration. By engaging with the center, MASON not only took part in an environmental activity, it reinforced the concepts of Sustainable Tourism and Responsible Tourism, which emphasize respecting and giving back to nature. Believing that connection to nature begins with understanding, MASON has made understanding the sea waters that surround it a basis for its operation, seeing itself not as a guest to its surrounds, but a steward of its environment that must stay aware of its impacts and choose to repay nature in a meaningful way. Taking part in the turtle release went beyond rehabilitation to promoting a profound sense of connection between service and care for the world. The activity was carried out in line with the “MASON BETTER TOGETHER – GIVING TOGETHER” concept, which on top of being a slogan, serves as a promise by MASON to actively care for its community, the sea, and the environment. This can be seen in the hotel’s support of Sustainable Tourism and Eco-Friendly Travel. The staging of the release was an acknowledgement of nature’s great value that also provided an opportunity for Responsible Tourism to modern travelers looking to connect with communities and the natural world. For many years, MASON has taken an active role in preserving the sea, through donations to the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Eastern Gulf of Thailand) and the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center, and visits to turtle hospitals and hatcheries to study their rehabilitation and long term aid. While World Turtle Day is a single annual event, MASON devotes care to the environment every day, believing that true sustainability is a constant choice and must be nurtured at all times.
