MASON joins “Baan Amphur Beach Cleaning” with MQDC to spark conservation of the sea and maritime resources on the occasion of World Ocean Day

On 8 June, 2022 from 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM, MASON took part in the “Baan Amphur Beach Cleaning” activity with MQDC, inviting its personnel to collect litter along Baan Amphur beach on the occasion of World Ocean Day, promoting awareness in the value of the planet’s seas and oceans and the need for conservation of maritime resources.

With three quarters of the planet covered in ocean, it is undeniably the world’s most crucial ecosystem, supporting all life on Earth. These massive bodies of water influence the wind and weather, harbor over 230,000 species and are a major source of salt, crude oil, natural gas and numerous more minerals. Humanity depends on the world’s oceans for industry, agriculture, daily life and even leisure, yet each year dumps some 12 million tons of plastic waste into it. Only five percent of this waste is seen floating on the surface of the water, with the rest scattered or sunken. Research by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources approximates that there will a one to three ratio of plastic garbage to fish by the year 2025, triggering an imbalance in the marine ecosystem that will impact life both on sea and land. For these reasons, acknowledgement is needed in the importance of the ocean and conservation efforts must begin before the issue gets out of hand.

MASON is a resort located on Thailand’s eastern coastline that devotes great importance to environmental conservation, especially of maritime resources. With an aim towards long-term sustainable development, MASON joined in the effort to save the world’s oceans by collecting litter along Baan Amphur Beach alongside MQDC, providing an opportunity for its personnel to better the ocean. The activity resulted in a large volume of tourism and community generated waste being collected, a small contribution to the major effort of maintaining the world’s oceans forever.

เมื่อวันที่ 8 มิถุนายน 2565 เวลา 8:30 น. – 11:00 น. เมสัน ร่วมกิจกรรม Baan Amphur Beach Cleaning กับ MQDC เชิญชวนบุคคลากรภายในองค์กรร่วมกันเก็บขยะ ณ ชายหาดบ้านอำเภอ ในวันมหาสมุทรโลก (World Ocean Day) เพื่อปลูกจิตสำนึกให้ทุกคนตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของท้องทะเลและมหาสมุทร รวมถึงหันมาช่วยกันอนุรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อมทางทะเลมากขึ้น

คงปฎิเสธไม่ได้ว่า 3 ใน 4 ของโลกเป็นพื้นที่มหาสมุทร ซึ่งถือเป็นระบบนิเวศหลักที่ทำให้สิ่งมีชีวิตดำรงชีพอยู่ได้บนโลกใบนี้ อีกทั้งมหาสมุทรยังมีอิทธิพลต่อลม ฟ้า อากาศ และเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของสิ่งมีชีวิตมากกว่า 230,000 สปีชีส์ รวมถึงมหาสมุทรยังเป็นแหล่งกำเนิดเกลือ น้ำมันดิบ ก๊าสธรรมชาติ และแร่ธาตุต่างๆ อีกมากมาย ทุกวันนี้มนุษย์ใช้ประโยชน์จากมหาสมุทรทั้งงานด้านอุตสาหกรรม เกษตรกรรม การดำรงชีพ ไปจนถึงที่พักผ่อน ในทุก ๆ ปี จะมีขยะพลาสติกประมาณ 12 ล้านตัน ถูกทิ้งสู่ท้องทะเลและมหาสมุทร ซึ่งมีเพียงร้อยละ 5 ที่พบเห็นเป็นชิ้นส่วนลอยอยู่ในทะเล ส่วนที่เหลือนั้นจมหรือล่องลอยไปตามกระแสน้ำอยู่ใต้ท้องมหาสมุทรทั่วโลก และจากงานวิจัยของกรมทรัพยากรทางทะเล คาดการณ์ว่า จะมีขยะพลาสติกมากถึง 1 ต่อ 3 ของปลาในทะเลในปี 2568 ซึ้งเป็นสาเหตุหลักที่ทำให้ระบบนิเวศเสียความสมดุล และส่งผลกระทบต่อสิ่งมีชีวิตทั้งบนบกและในท้องทะเล ทั้งหมดนี้ จึงเป็นเหตุผล ที่เราควรช่วยอนุรักษ์และเล็งเห็นความสำคัญของท้องทะเลอย่างแท้จริง เริ่มต้นง่ายๆ ก่อนที่ ปัญหาขยะสะสมในทะเลจะทวีความรุนแรง

เมสัน เป็นหนึ่งในรีสอร์ทที่ตั้งอยู่บนชายฝั่งทะเลตะวันออกของประเทศไทย และเมสันให้ความสำคัญต่อการอนุรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อม โดยเฉพาะทรัพยากรทางทะเล และเล็งเห็นถึงการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนระยะยาวเป็นอย่างยิ่ง จึงร่วมเป็นอีกหนึ่งพลังเพื่อส่งเสริมการอนุรักษ์ท้องทะเล โดยร่วมเก็บขยะ ณ ชายหาดบ้านอำเภอ กับ MQDC เพื่อให้บุคคลากรทุกคนได้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการช่วยระบบนิเวศของท้องทะเลให้ดีขึ้นกว่าที่เคย ในวันนั้นจากการร่วมมือของหลายหน่วยงานเราสามารถเก็บขยะที่เกิดขึ้นจากการท่องเที่ยวหรือการทำมาหากินจากชุมชนได้เป็นจำนวนมาก จากสองมือและหนึ่งใจของพวกเรา ที่พร้อมช่วยอนุรักษ์ท้องทะเล ให้มีสภาพที่ดีตลอดไป
