เทศกาลไหว้พระจันทร์เป็นเทศกาลที่มีความสำคัญของชาวจีน โดยปกติจะตรงกับวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำเดือน 8 ตามจันทรคติ ซึ่งปีกระต่ายนี้ ตรงกับเดือนกันยายนของไทย เทศกาลนี้จะจัดขึ้นในช่วงกลางฤดูใบไม้ร่วง เรียกว่า “จงชิว” ตามตำราจีน จง แปลว่า กลาง และ ชิว แปลว่า ฤดูใบไม้ร่วง ดังนั้น จงชิว จึงแปลว่ากลางฤดูใบไม้ร่วง นอกจากนี้ชาวจีนยังเชื่อกันว่าเทศกาลไหว้พระจันทร์เป็นโอกาสอันดีที่ครอบครัวจะได้มาอยู่พร้อมหน้ากัน และนั่งรับประทานขนมไหว้พระจันทร์ระหว่างชมจันทร์ส่องแสง

The Moon Festival or the mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional events for Chinese people, normally held in the middle of the 8th lunar month. This year falls in September according to Thai calendar. Some people call this festival as “Zhong-Giu” Festival where “Zhong” means middle and “Giu” means Autumn, thus “Zhong-Giu” means Mid-Autumn. Furthermore, the Moon Festival is a good occasion for family reunion, to enjoy mooncakes together while watching the full moon rises.
